Purposes and
Objectives
The German Federation of
Blind and Visually Impaired People (DBSV) represents the interests of
blind and partially sighted people in Germany. It is the immediate
legal successor to the Reichsdeutscher Blindenverband which was
established in 1912. The members of the German Federation of Blind
and Visually Impaired People are 20 regional organisations which
subdivide into 300 district and local organisations where volunteers
(many of whom are blind or partially sighted themselves) join full
time staff workers to provide advice and assistance for newly blind
people.
Due to the increasing number of those who go blind at an advanced age and who have no longer access to the labour market, the German Federation of Blind and Visually Impaired People directs special attention to rehabilitation programmes for elderly blind people. It is this group who more than any other needs to be given special help to enable them to find their place again in family and society.
The purpose of the German Federation of Blind and Visually Impaired People is to maintain the social position of blind and visually impaired people and to promote their social and vocational integration.
To fulfill these purposes the following action ist taken:
